PLAY works with a variety of partners in collecting and understanding local research as it relates to young children (0-6 years) in our region. For the purposes of our coalition, Greater Victoria Region includes Port Renfrew, Sooke, Colwood, Saanich, Victoria and Southern Gulf Islands.
Our work has relied on the support of provincial and local researchers from the University of British Columbia and University of Victoria to determine various methods of criteria in identifying 37 neighbourhoods in our region. The collaborative effort of PLAY, School Districts, Ministry of Children and Family Development, and access to 2001 Census Tracts have given us the opportunity to map how our children ages 0-6 years are doing in the various neighbourhoods in our region. See Report on the Victoria Early Childhood Mapping Project - [PDF 136KB].
Facts, maps and reports of our community are intended to be used by the broader public for local planning; as information to support potential funding; and for the purposes of strengthening the local understanding of communities.
Our work is constant as are the needs of communities. We encourage you to review the facts and maps of your respective neighbourhood and ask yourself and others how can your community be a better place for young children?
