PCEC "1000 x 5"

Purposes of the Children's Book Recycling Project:

1. to do what we can to ensure children are given opportunities to have 1000 books read to them by ( x ) the time they are 5 years old.

 2. to promote awareness of the importance of reading to children prior to school entry

What we do:  collect used/new children's books from within the community and redistribute them free-of-charge to families with young children (newborn to 5 years old).

How you can participate:  During the school year, please drop off books suitable for young children at any of the schools in Saanich School District,or at the District Board Office, or the Peninsula Co-op Food Centre on Keating Cross Road. The books are then delivered to our "collection depot", volunteers sort, package and label them for distribution throughout the Peninsula.

From April 2008 to March 2009, 11116 books have been donated and 3113 bags of books have been packaged and distributed.  Thank you for your support.
