Esquimalt Community

The Esquimalt ECD Committee has been meeting for 3 years on a quarterly basis with a wide representation from day cares, pre-schools, local area elementary schools, family support agencies, recreation centres, Municipal Council, health services, First Nations communities, local library, and the community at large. Our meeting minutes go to a large audience of interested and supportive community members.

Our most recent accomplishment has been a survey of the September 2005 Kindergarten cohort in Esquimalt schools. Parents were surveyed in November to find out what services and programs the children had been attending prior to Kindergarten and if there were barriers to accessing services for the families. The results from this survey will inform our committee in planning for ECD services in the community.

Some of the key benefits resulting from our ECD Committee have been increased sharing of information and networking to be more planful of service delivery in Esquimalt, as well as shared problem solving regarding service delivery and meeting the needs of children and their families.
