Data Sharing and Dissemination

With our project mission: To create an informed community of people ready to respond to the needs of young children 6 and under, in BC's Capital Region, we are preparing a series of data sharing tools to get the word out about what we learn and how different audiences can contribute.

Early Years Reports

We will report results and produce maps for every municipality in the region. Data and information will include: EDI, PIDACS, healthy early childhood assets, child care information, and information from other PLAY reports. Each Early Years committee will receive a tailored report with the information and maps for the municipalities within their area of coverage. These will be posted on the PLAY website and will be living documents.

Research Briefs

The UEY project plans to prepare research briefs for identified thematic issues chosen during the research analysis process. These briefs will be targeted to local governments to provide municipal councilors and planners with up to date strategic early childhood development information, as well clear steps for taking action at the municipal level.

PLAY-UEY Newsletter

At least two PLAY-UEY newsletters will be disseminated to elementary school principals, kindergarten teachers, (hopefully parents of kindergarten children too), child care providers and PLAY members. The purpose of these newsletters will be to share research findings and to raise awareness of the work of PLAY, local Early Years committees and, importantly of the UEY project.

Early Childhood Atlas

The UEY project will develop an Early Childhood Atlas that entails two different mapping approaches.

  1. An interactive web based application that displays layers of early childhood development information that can be turned on/off to allow users to create their own maps that can be generated for analysis and printing. The audience for this would be PLAY members, local Early Years commitees and service providers. These would be useful for reports and funding applications. We hope to collaborate with other partners to make this a reality.
  2. A qualitative and analytical component that seeks to explore major themes that have emerged through research and community exploration of early childhood assets. This is a means of adding additional layers of information and complexity to our quantitative data and maps.

Protocols for Sharing Local Results

The UEY Advisory Committee is currently discussing how we will share EDI results we have received to date. Some results have already been made public on the HELP website. Other results have been held back until we have clearly articulated our strategy for sharing them. As noted in our data analysis section, our Advisory Committee would like to adopt an appreciative inquiry approach to analyzing and sharing our local results. To release our results at present, we would not be meeting this goal. As we have more results and local knowledge and experience to contextualize and enrich reporting, the sharing of these EDI results will unfold.
