| Early Years Community Appreciation Awards | In May 2008, the inaugaral Early Years Community Appreciation Awards was Launced. We heard from 284 parents with young children about their favourite parks, playspaces, restaurants, free services, parenting supports, places to connect with other parents and family friendly workplaces. All nominated businesses and organziations are now being given their Children Welcome window decal and have been placed on our on-line map. |

| Parent Interviews & Direct Assessment of Children Survey (PIDACS) | 757 Parent Interviews and 846 Child Assessments were completed by the end of June 2007. Thanks to all the parents, children, school districts, assessors, interviewers and Malatest for your participation and support. | Child Care and Early Learning Information Action Project |
UEY has been mobilizing research and data in one of PLAY's key strategic areas: Child Care. Six municipal research and action briefs were prepared for Victoria, Saanich, Langford, Colwood, Sooke and Central Saanich- these are being disseminated to Mayors and Councillors throughout July to September. | Early Years Reports |
The Early Years Report Series is now available on-line. Seven sub-regional reports share early childhood baseline information on: community assets, EDI, child care, census information and more for the City of Victoria, Oak Bay, Saanich, Esquimalt-View Royal, Western Communities, Peninsula and Southern Gulf Islands. |

| Asset Inventory |
A excel inventory of over 1000 community assets that support healthy early childhood development is on the PLAY website. |

| Communications | PLAY has finalized it's Communications Plan. It will be available shortly. |

| UEY Advisory Committee | Interested in joining our advisory? Email the UEY coordinator. Our Next meeting will be September 9th, 2008. Meetings are held once a month, from 2:30 to 4:30. |

| Municipal Planning Updates | The City of Victoria Council reviewed the Child Friendly Community Policy on July 12, 2007, submitted by the Social Planning Advisory Committee (see page 20). Planner, Karen Ramsay Cline will present her report to Council on August 28th to the Committee of the Whole. Additionally, Council agreed to submit the resolution on child care to the September Union of BC Municipalities convention. Thank you to Central Saanich, Langford and Colwood for addressing the needs of young children, as well as child care, in your current Official Community Plan revisions! |
