Who we are
We are the world's children. We are not expenses, we are investments. We want a world fit for children, because a world fit for us is fit for everyone.
UN Special Session on Children, 2002
We are a diverse group of people and organizations who share a common vision and collective responsibility for the health and well being of all young children (conception to school entry) in the Greater Victoria region.
Our Commitment
We will:
- Increase the profile of young children through collection and open communication of research and information.
- Actively seek commitment from new stakeholders to support healthy early childhood.
- Share our strengths and resources to the best of our ability to reach common goals and increase each other's capacity.
- Support the ongoing development of those who influence the health and well-being of young children and families.
- Design and act on a community plan which will promote the multiple factors that contribute to the health and well being of young children.
- Evaluate our work and revise our actions towards continuous improvement.
- Continue to contribute to knowledge about healthy early childhood development.
Our Beliefs
About children, families and communities:
- Healthy communities and healthy families foster healthy children.
- Children have a right to a healthy environment.
- Health and well-being in the early years lays the groundwork for a life time.
- If we address the needs of the entire population of children, we improve the health and well being of all, including those most vulnerable.
- Families have a pivotal role and have a right to support.
- Children's' well-being is a shared responsibility and belongs to the whole community.
- The health of children is a result of multiple, interrelated factors.
About the way we will work together:
- Working together will create new opportunities and overcome barriers.
- Outcomes for children will be best if our actions are based on research and experience.
- Sharing success feeds future successes.
